THE BAND
Lithuania’s breakout pop sensation, THE ROOP, is redefining mainstream music with a unique blend of infectious dance-pop rhythms and emotional storytelling, all wrapped in a bold and stylish visual identity. Formed in Vilnius in 2014 by singer Vaidotas Valiukevičius, drummer Robertas Baranauskas, and guitarist Mantas Banišauskas, the band draws on diverse musical backgrounds to craft songs that are both catchy and meaningful. Their work often goes beyond music, delivering powerful messages through striking videos and performances.
The band’s name, THE ROOP, comes from an archaic English verb meaning “to cry out” or “to make a great noise” — a perfect metaphor for their loud and clear voice in the pop world. From the start, THE ROOP has used their platform to explore social themes, connecting with audiences on multiple levels.
BREAKTHROUGH & EUROVISION SUCCESS
THE ROOP first gained major attention in 2018 with their emotionally charged and stylish performance of “Yes, I Do” during Lithuania’s Eurovision national selection, earning 3rd place. Their international breakthrough came in 2020 with “On Fire”, Lithuania’s Eurovision entry that became a viral sensation despite the contest’s cancellation due to the pandemic. The song has amassed over 40 million streams, and the band won numerous alternative Eurovision contests, including the German TV finale.
In 2021, THE ROOP returned with “Discoteque”, dominating both the jury vote and televote in Lithuania’s Eurovision selection. Their performance captivated audiences worldwide, ultimately finishing 8th in the Eurovision Grand Final in Rotterdam and expanding their global fanbase.
In 2025, THE ROOP returned to Eurovision as guest performers, presenting “On Fire” live on the official stage for the first time. This marked the first appearance by a Lithuanian act performing their original Eurovision entry outside of competition, highlighting the song’s ongoing popularity and significance both within and beyond the Eurovision community.
DISCOGRAPHY
THE ROOP’s sound has been carefully crafted over years of experimentation and growth. Their debut album, To Whom It May Concern (2015), came after nearly four years in the studio and over 50 songs written. The album was mastered by renowned Australian engineer Leon Zervos, known for his work with INXS, Aerosmith, Muse, and Coldplay.
In 2017, their second album Ghosts introduced hits like the dreamy “Dream On”, the heartfelt “Keista Draugystė”, and “Hello”, notable for its daring video featuring real people and their life stories.
Their 2018 EP Yes, I Do featured five tracks, including the titular Eurovision national selection song and a duet with singer Migloko called “UFO”.
Following that, in 2022, THE ROOP released the album Concrete Flower, which blends solemn tracks like “Let’s Get Naked” with fan favorites such as “On Fire”, “Discoteque”, “Love Is All We Got”, and several fresh, unheard songs.
Looking ahead, their 2025 album Momentum delivers a refined, cinematic sound with the lead single “Steal Me” blending sleek synth-pop and retro-futuristic energy, marking an exciting new chapter for the band.
